Open plan offices have become more commonplace, as companies increasingly recognise they encourage collaboration and engagement. In addition, they often also provide more natural light into employees’ work spaces.
If the findings of a new study are anything to go by, this natural light could well be the secret to more well-rested and productive staff.
A report by the University of Illinois found employees who work by a window sleep 46 minutes more than their peers, and scored better on health and sleep surveys.

Study participants who worked by a window were also found to sleep more soundly on non-working nights, and were also more inclined to get more natural light after work or on their off days.
Speaking to Fast Company, lead researcher Mohamed Boubekri said this may suggest those who work by windows have more energy to do outdoor activities outside the office.
