The Cathay Pacific Airways Flight Attendants Union has produced a video, pleading to extend the retirement age of cabin crew to 65.
The video begins with vice-chairman of the union Silvia But asking the airline to stop age discrimination. It features interviews with a number of flight attendants on why the current 55 retire age is not going to work.
One flight attendant pointed out that most Hongkongers won’t get married and have children until they are in their 30s. Retiring at 55 will bring heavy financial burden on families as parents are no longer able to support their children who are still in school.
Another pointed out that retiring at 55 is way too early and it is very difficult to start a new career at 55.
