Shawn Tan has been appointed the group HR director at Triple with effect from 1 October 2017. In this role, he will provide HR leadership to the group with a focus on building strong employer branding for talent attraction, as well as organisational capabilities and people competencies for continued business growth.
He reports to Lee Phui Fong, group CFO at Triple. Prior to joining Triple, Tan held HR roles at Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific, Mercer, Robinson and Co, among others. He remains based in Singapore.
Headquartered in Singapore, sports and lifestyle company Triple holds the exclusive distribution rights for global American sports label Under Armour across Southeast Asia, as well as Swiss functional sportswear apparel Odlo, Danish sports brand Newline, Japanese athletic compression gear C3fit, and British stylish activewear brand Every Second Counts at Triple Fit.
Human Resources interviewed Shawn Tan on his priorities for the new role, to which he responded: “Recruit right. Build employer branding and the leadership pipeline.”
In Tan’s view, the coming year will see companies needing to create new and more effective engagement solutions for employees, especially the Millennials. He says: “While the engagement priorities/results may not differ too drastically from the past, it would be an ongoing challenge for HR to develop a creative and customised approach to build the ‘engagement bridge’ between the company and employees.
“All of us understand the importance and the benefits of having strong employee engagement but I believe greater emphasis should be placed on engagement, given that much efforts are committed to talent identification and development.”
