Effective 2 August, Byron Ng Kwok Keung has been appointed the new executive director for the Employees Retraining Board (ERB) in Hong Kong. Ng succeeds Stanley Ng Ka Kwong who has served as executive director since 2010.

Byron Ng brings with him an array of experience in vocational training and employment services. He holds a bachelor degree of social sciences from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and joined the civil service upon graduation. In 1983, he joined the Labour Department and was promoted to Deputy Commissioner for Labour in 2012. He retired from that post in 2017.

During his service with the Labour Department, Ng was in charge of a wide array of labour affairs and policies including employment services, labour relations and employees’ rights and benefits. He was awarded the Bronze Bauhinia Star in July 2017.

As executive director, Ng will oversee the provision of 130,000 training places in 2017-2018.

In a message on the ERB website, Ng says: “I am confident that with the guidance of the Board and by collaborating with the Government, employers, trade unions, training bodies and all stakeholders, we will continue doing our best to assist Hong Kong people to ‘study’ and ‘upgrade and value-add’ on different fronts.”

Commenting on the appointment in a press release, the ERB states: “The board has confidence that Mr. Byron Ng will continue to lead the Executive Office of the ERB in enhancing its training courses and services to 2.5 million service targets for uplifting the quality of labour force of Hong Kong.”
