Skytrax has awarded the top airline of 2018 to Singapore Airlines (SIA) at World Airline Awards on Tuesday (17 July). The Singapore carrier has been awarded ‘World’s Best Airline’ three times prior, in 2004, 2007 and 2008.
SIA also took the top spot in three other categories in the 2018 rankings – ‘World’s Best First Class’, ‘Best Airline in Asia’ and ‘Best First Class Airline’.
The top ten airlines are as follows:
- Singapore Airlines
- Qatar Airways
- ANA All Nippon Airways
- EVA Air
- Cathay Pacific Airways
- Hainan Airlines
- Garuda Indonesia
- Thai Airways
Other notable accolades for Asia-based carriers include China Southern Airlines winning the ‘World’s Most Improved Airline’, continued success for Garuda Indonesia being named the ‘World’s Best Cabin Crew’, and AirAsia bagging the prize of ‘World’s Best Low-Cost Airline’. [full list of winners]
The awards are based on surveys of more than 20 million travellers, who rated more than 335 airlines between August 2017 and May 2018.
Accepting the award, SIA CEO Goh Choon Phong said: “Singapore Airlines is honoured to be named ‘World’s Best Airline’ in the Skytrax awards, and I dedicate it to the 26,000 SIA Group employees who focus every day on delivering the world’s best travel experience to our customers.”
Skytrax CEO Edward Plaisted added: “A key ‘wow’ factor for customers is consistency and this proved to a real asset for Singapore Airlines who scored highly across both product and service. I am sure Singapore Airlines will also take great pride in winning the World’s Best First Class award, less than one year after they introduced their new first-class suites.”
