Singaporean firms need to adapt to an increasingly mobile workforce if they wish to retain their existing talent.

This is due to a majority of local professionals believing their home or home office would be the ideal place to work, according to a new study.

In fact, more than six out of 10 respondents in Singapore cited their home quarters as the best place to work, the VMware MeConomy 2014 study found.

In addition, 72% of the 2,455 international employees polled indicated they are equally productive outside of the office.

Local employees also expect their company to support a mobile workforce by providing a comprehensive and accepted flexible working policy (56%).

Close to half of those polled (54%) stated they expect their company to provide equipment and hardware that allow them to work everywhere, and 48% indicated their companies should provide tools that enable access to applications they need on their own devices.

“Businesses need to evolve quickly in this new mobile cloud era, where expectations of IT accelerates exponentially with the increase of mobile employees in the workforce, along with thousands of new applications and services, despite a stagnant IT budget,” Leslie Ong, country manager of VMware Singapore, told Enterprise Innovation.

“The most competitive and agile companies will be those that empower their employees to work at the speed of life, with access to their desktop from any device”.
