Royal Philips announced today plans to build a new regional headquarters based in Singapore, which will accommodate a significant expansion in capabilities and talent to support the company’s growth ambitions.

CEO Frans van Houten said the new facility “underlines Philips’ commitment to the region and most importantly, will drive our innovation particularly in healthcare”.

The centre, which will be located in Toa Payoh, is expected to be completed in 2016, and will provide a base for Philips’ expansion efforts in tele-health.

It will also boast a new research and development facilities, a co-creation center with rapid prototyping capabilities, and a digital command center for monitoring global and local consumer trends and managing content.

“With the new tele-health center, for example, we aim to improve patient health and lower treatment costs by monitoring patient conditions and reducing the need to hospitalise patients,” van Houten said.

Harjit Gill, chief executive for ASEAN and Pacific at Royal Philips, said Singapore’s large pool of high-skilled talent “is critical to Philips as we aim to transform and grow our organisation”.

“This growth will help us respond to the region’s top societal challenges, such as urbanisation, ageing populations and the rise of chronic
diseases,” Gill said.
