In line with the institute’s Vision 2020 goal to introduce more courses that support Singapore’s push for a future-ready economy, the Management Development Institute of Singapore (MDIS) has unveiled plans to expand its offering of vocational and WSQ (Singapore Workforce Skills Qualifications) certified programmes across nine academic areas, with up to 20% of its courses to be eligible for SkillsFuture Credit.

According to a media release, the nine academic areas to be developed include engineering, fashion, food and beverage, health and safety, information technology, leadership and people management, health/ life sciences, media and communications, and healthcare support.

This move follows the institute’s recent attainment of the  Approved Training Organisation (ATO) status for its MDIS Bakery & Culinary Studio. Come November, the MDIS School of Tourism and Hospitality will launch its National Certificate in Professional Cookery.

MDIS has also recently introduced 22 new pre-degree and degree programmes across its academic disciplines, and launched a new School of Nursing. The new programmes, with heavy emphasis on vocational skills development, coupled with an expanded academic progression pathway, will nurture future-ready graduates and enhance their employability.

As new courses are rolled out, MDIS looks to upgrade and enhance the buildings, learning, and living facilities at its MDIS Stirling Road campus. These include new and upgraded learning labs; more industry-standard equipment for schools; technological upgrades in aid of learning in the classrooms; and enhanced greenery, spaces, and amenities for students.

“We constantly review our courses and facilities to ensure industry relevance”, said MDIS Secretary-General, Dr R Theyvendran. “As a forward-looking institute, the foundations of new programmes and facilities are strategically laid before the industry realises its needs. This equips students and mid-career professionals with future-ready skills for evolving industry demands.”
