The policy framework for the fourth industrial revolution (IR 4.0) is expected to be presented in the first quarter of next year, Bernama reports.

Malaysia’s Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed said yesterday that the first draft of the framework has been presented to him and is expected to be submitted to the government by end of January 2018.

After it is tabled in Parliament, the government will then decide which ministry will lead the implementation of the National Industry 4.0, he added.

“I am very pleased with the progress and we want to try to complete it within the target of the first quarter of next year. However, April is more doable,” he commented.

MITI is coordinating five working groups in drafting the blueprint: Digital Infrastructure and Eco-system, Funding and Incentives, Talent and Human Capital, Technology and Standards and SMEs.

The ministries involved in leading these groups include the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, Ministry of Human Resources, Ministry of Higher Education, Ministry of Finance, and Ministry of Communications and Multimedia.
