Election Commission (EC) chairman Tan Sri Mohd Hashim Abdullah has announced that Malaysian-registered voters in the domestic postal voter category can apply for postal voting since 19 February. In a statement issued yesterday, he noted that these voters could apply for postal voting if their employers confirm they need to be on duty on the polling day.
Additionally, general election staff, police and army personnel who cannot go for early voting, as well as members of the media, could apply using Form 1A.
Meanwhile, members of the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), prisons department, Malaysian fire and rescue department, staff of government hospitals and clinics, police volunteers, civil defence force, immigration department, national disaster management agency, and the registration department staff stationed at urban transformation centres must do so by filling in Form 1C.
“The EC has uploaded Form 1A and Form 1C on the website – www.spr.gov.my. The guideline for filling up the form can also be obtained there,” he said in the report.
Tan Sri Hashim also said that the completed Form 1A must be submitted to the returning postal voting management unit at the EC Headquarters in Putrajaya either by post or via e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org, or fax to 03-8881 0424/ 0399/ 0394/ 0386/ 0369.
He added that applications for the first category (Form 1A) will be closed on nomination day while that for the second category (Form 1C) will be closed five days before nomination day.
