Large enterprises to help nurture tech talent in local firms

Gathering 50 top regional chief HR and senior business leaders at a three-day business retreat forum, the exclusive HR Innovation Leaders' Summit will happen from September 9-11. Get involved.

Singapore’s Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) has announced it is allocating $15 million over the next three years to a new programme which aims to help local tech companies nurture talent and strengthen their capabilities with the help of large enterprises.

The programme, called iPACT – the Partnership for Capability Transformation for the Infocomm Sector – aims to incentivise large enterprises to work with local companies in the manufacturing, construction and other sectors.

Four companies – Motorola, Starhub, Microsoft and Razer – have already come on board as part of the programme and will be reaching out to local tech companies to be part of their team.

Steve Leonard, executive deputy chairman of IDA, said this is one of a number of initiatives which will further boost the tech talent pool in Singapore.

“Singapore has embraced the vision to become the world’s first Smart Nation, and we know the innovative use of technology helps us pursue ideas to improve people’s lives in areas such as healthcare and education,” he said.

“Companies of all sizes in various countries have signalled their excitement to be part of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to ‘experiment and explore’ with us. The positive feedback so far has been amazing, and we’ve only just begun.

“We think some very cool tech startups will be born out of what we want to create as a Smart Nation.”
