Employers worldwide continue to be plagued by talent shortages, revealing that the war for talent is far from over.

According to Talent Shortage Survey by Manpower Group, 36% of global employers are having difficulty finding candidates with the right skills to fill open positions.

This percentage has increased for the second consecutive year and has been identified to be at its highest level since 2007.

More than five out of 10 employers (54%) who are experiencing such shortages stated lack of talent has a medium or high impact on their ability to meet client needs.

“Talent shortages continue to persist and are impeding employers’ ability to deliver value for their customers,” Jonas Prising, CEO of Manpower Group, said. “For nearly a decade skilled trades and STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) positions are among the top 10 hardest jobs to fill, both globally and in the U.S.”

Indeed, the report found the positions of skilled trades, engineers and technicians were the top three jobs in the world which were most difficult to fill respectively. Sales representatives and accounting and finance staff rounded up the top five positions.

The report also highlighted the top trends contributing to this high level of talent shortage around the world.

Rapid technological development, shifting demographics and mismatches between talent supply and demand were cited as the top three factors contributing to this lack of talent globally.

The survey polled 37,000 employers in 42 countries worldwide to look at the extent to which they are having difficulty finding the right talent and what jobs are most difficult to fill.

The top 10 hardest jobs to fill globally in 2014:

1. Skills trades

2. Engineers

3. Technicians

4. Sales representatives

5. Accounting and finance staff

6. Management / Executives

7. Sales managers

8. IT staff

9. Office support staff

10. Drivers
