When it comes to creating a solid business partnership between HR and the CEO, Rupert Brown, HR director at Maersk Line Asia Pacific, is rather frank about what is expected of human resources leaders.

“You have to remember there are two reasons you are in the job,” he says. “The first is to help the CEO and the business be successful, and the second is to run the most efficient and effective HR function possible.

“And in truth, your CEO doesn’t care too much about that second reason!”

But is that really true? At The Futurist, held on April 23rd, Brown will be joined on stage by his CEO, Thomas Knudsen, to discuss openly and frankly what is expected of HR by management, and how they are meeting these rising expectations to best align with the business.

“You have a great partnership when you both share a vision of what the future looks like in terms of success for the business, the people, the function and each other,” says Brown.

“The CEO has to count on you for bringing sound solutions and strategies to the table, but he or she should not be telling you how to run HR – that’s why they hired an HR professional.”

“Just like building long term commercial relationships, if you start thinking in terms of HR for HR then you lose site of the goal of winning together.”

The Futurist – and this session in particular – is a must-attend for any HR leader looking for guidance and a more effective way to communicate with their CEO.

Join us at The Futurist on April 23rd at the InterContinental Hotel in Singapore.
