British Council and CIPD partner for level 3 qualifications

The British Council and the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) have partnered in a bid to raise the level of HR and L&D competency in Singapore.

Effective 2018, British Council will run CIPD level three qualifications. The CIPD diploma in HR is a qualification offered at the British Council, which will provide the latest in HR management principles to equip learners with practical skills and knowledge for a support-level role within the function.

Announced on 20 November, the ceremony saw CIPD chief executive Peter Cheese and British Council director Roland Davis signing the partnership at the British High Commissioner’s Residence.

Human Resources spoke exclusively to Amanda Moody, director professional development centre at British Council Singapore for details on the partnership

Q. How much uptake do you visualise for HR certifications in Singapore, and the wider Asia region, in the coming year?

We are hoping to be able to offer the diploma to new HR practitioners and also those new to the profession – so in terms of meeting the government agenda on both HR skills development and the rising workforce need for new career paths we are well placed for a substantial take up to support the Singaporean market.

Q. What’s the one myth you would change about getting an HR-related certification?

Image! The key to supporting organisational change to meet today’s volatile employment market is to have skilled HR professionals that can advise and take decisions as business partners – so arguably in this global climate one of the current most valuable fields to be qualified in is the HR profession. Its role as a secondary support function is a myth –  as a profession it’s increasingly viewed as having kudos and currency in the market.

If you look at where the internal pain points are, increasingly technology and digitalisation will become a way of life in the workplace.

Q. In your view, what is the biggest HR trend that CHROs must prepare for in 2018?

If you look at where the internal pain points are in organisations, increasingly technology and digitalisation will become a way of life in the workplace. So there is a real need here to understand and manage capability and talent, and for succession planning to future-proof employees.

We are also seeing a real need in global HR practice for skilled, international HR professionals who understand global context. So equipping HR practitioners with a recognised HR foundation and specialised skills in these areas will be crucial for the future.
