The world of numbers is set to be all the rage in 2014.
At least, this appears to be the case according to CareerCast’s 2014 Jobs Rated report, which found the most popular job this year to be a mathematician.
Highlighting the rising demand of data analytics in companies and being able to perform mathematical analysis of key trends, the report stated the field’s versatility as the primary reason for its popularity.
Checking in at second place is tenured university professor, which scored top marks in all four of the report’s main criteria – it promises a conducive environment, grants high incomes with low stress levels and has high growth potential.
This ranking isn’t surprising, considering the job’s characteristics are directly in contrast with the report’s worst job in the world – the poorly paid and stressed lumberjack.

Known as one of the most diverse fields in the report, the job is titled the most popular occupation in 2014 due to its high income levels and good opportunities for growth.
2. University professor (Tenured)

University professors are integral in giving students the necessary foundation to succeed in other careers, but the stability of the job and its excellent environment grants it another reason to be a favourite this year.

“Statistical analysis is of growing importance to a wide spectrum of industries, thus professional statisticians are in high demand,” the report said.

An actuary is a business professional who deals with the financial impact of risk and uncertainty, skills which the uncertain economic world definitely needs in the future.

With an aging population, audiologists are expected to be in high demand over the coming years. Technological advancements are also expected to aid audiologists to become more efficient in the future.
6. Dental hygienist

7. Software engineer
