While you work on recruiting fresh talent as early as when they’re still in universities, be sure to recruit the ones who are actually interested in their field.
According to a new survey by Happi, regret and confusion surround the career choices of young Singaporeans, with 32.5% of them expressing uncertainty or regret around their chosen tertiary education. While another 22.2% weren’t sure why they chose their current career path.
Surveying 640 Singapore-based respondents, aged 18 to 64 as part of its Workforce of the Future series, Happi revealed that if given a second chance at selecting their career barring any external factors, the healthcare industry was their ideal sector.
Healthcare attracted 18.11% respondents, while banking and finance came in second place with 13.46%, and media and entertainment took third position with 12.18% of Singapore Millennials.
Greg Lipper, founder of Happi, said: “The Workforce of the Future series shows that young Singaporean talent – although driven by the need to succeed – are still struggling to find their place in a professional workplace setting.
“Although most of the respondents said they were driven by a passion for their career path and a lifelong knowledge of their desire for their chosen field, a significant number are also unsure how they ended up on the the track they did – while a small portion even chose their path due to pressure from their parents.”
