The need to build an organisation of the future coupled with the changing nature of a career, makes continuous learning a critical aspect for business success.
According to Deloitte’s 2017 Global Human Capital Trends survey, 88% of 10,447 business and HR leaders surveyed believe that building the organisation of the future is an important or very important issue.
This, set against a backdrop of a declining half life of skills (5 years), and a career span of 60-70 years, saw the issue of improving employee careers and transforming corporate learning emerging as the second most important trend in the survey, just behind building an organisation for the future and up from fifth last year.
More than eight in 10 (83%) survey respondents ranked ‘careers and learning’ as important or very important.
Despite that, the report also pointed out that companies have a lot to improve on, stating that “as capabilities fall behind, companies’ ability to keep up with employees’ demands for learning and career growth has dropped by 5 %.”
Deloitte finds that as organisations shed legacy systems and dismantle yesterday’s hierarchies, it’s important to place a higher premium on implementing immersive learning experiences to develop leaders who can thrive in today’s digital world and appeal to diverse workforce needs.
Additionally, the report pointed out that as organisations become more digital, leaders should consider disruptive technologies for every aspect of their human capital needs.
Deloitte finds that 56% of companies are redesigning their HR programs to leverage digital and mobile tools, and 33% are already using some form of artificial intelligence (AI) applications to deliver HR solutions.
